About Course:
UGC has sponsored folk and Indigenous studies MA Gujarati N S Patel Arts College, Anand is the only college to obtain this kind of course. UGC has allocated around 40 Lakh Rupees and three assistant professors. The course is affiliated to Sardar Patel University. For common Gujarati subject 70 students get enrolment and 20 students are taken for Folk and Indigenous Studies. The Co-ordinator is Dr. Nilesh Makwana, Dr. Bipin Baraiya (Assistant Professor) and Mrs. Sanjana Parmar (Assistant Professor) serving the department at present.
This course was introduced in the year 2013 named as M.A. Gujarati (Folk and Indigenous Studies). The department offers curricular as well as co-curricular activities for the holistic development of the students, by the innovative teaching patters the department has been a for front runners in Gujarat running this course. Ours is the only college in Gujarat to obtain this course wherein, two types of courses are offered one common Gujarati and the other Folk and Indigenous Studies M.A. in Gujarati. In common course there is only one subject being taught of medieval literature, whereas the Folk and Indigenous Studies offer all in depth the Medieval literature and folk literature. The students of fourth semester are guided for the research work that leads them pursue M.Phil. and Ph.D. level studies. To enlighten the students the department introduces newbooks in form of ‘Book Fair’. The arrangement of book stall is provided wherein the students can avail the opportunity to purchase book with discounted rates at 40-60%. The first week of the month is celebrated as “Matru Bhasha Abhiyan’ where in PustakParab’ (book fair) is arranged. In the programme of ‘Shahitya Kala VimarshVyakhyan Mala’ the dignitaries and the speakers are invited from the different parts of the world and the nation is invited to expatiate the literature. So far there has been Thirteen lecture series organised. The department has successfully organized many events such as the 47thconvention of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad, Convention of Gujarati Adyapak Sangh, Pratipada: Festival of post-morden poetry and other literature festivals. The department has released 5 ‘Kanthsampada’ so far which reflects the folklore and folk literature. The venture started from August, 2014. The department successfully organised an international 39 Indian Folklore Congress in October, 2015.
The publication cell of the department has published reference books like: Kalavithika, Modern Poetry & Folklore Research Methodology etc. The department has published FalniVeraeUdilo Lai Gayo’, post-modern Poetry (Pratipada), Kashmiri Ramayan, Chaneni: A study of Folk Epic.
To enhance the ability of the students the department invites the resource persons, teachers and knowledgeable personnel. The department organises three days camp, wherein the discussion and debate are organised every week. The students are taken for Study Tours and are given exposure. Students are also given guidance for competitive exams like NET, SLET and so on.
The department is always keen in the development of the student’s ability and collective growth of the institution.
